Kolaj Institute
Sobre Esta Oportunidade

Kolaj Institute’s Solo Residencies are a flexible, self‑directed program that provides contemporary visual artists, independent curators and creative writers with dedicated time, studio space and material resources to develop a collage‑based project. Residencies last one or two weeks and are held at the Institute’s home in the Marigny neighbourhood of New Orleans, where participants receive a private bedroom, shared kitchen and bathroom, and access to a fully equipped gallery studio with collage‑making supplies, a printer and a wrap‑around balcony. The Institute supplies scissors, cutting knives, mats, glue, books, magazines and paper, while participants may bring additional materials. The cost to the artist is US $900 for a one‑week stay (including six nights’ accommodation) or US $1 400 for two weeks (including thirteen nights). A companion fee of US $400 per week applies if a partner travels with the resident. A limited number of $250 grants are available to offset the residency fee for applicants with demonstrated financial need; travel, food and off‑site lodging are the responsibility of the artist. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with no fixed deadline. Applicants must submit a brief bio, a statement of practice and 5‑7 examples of work, and the selection process includes a pre‑residency assessment to match community partners and resources. The residency aims to deepen understanding of collage as a medium, support research in the Institute’s archive, and foster the creation of new works, exhibitions or publications.

Restrições
We are looking for artists with an articulated goal for their time in New Orleans. That goal need not to be explicitly related to New Orleans, though priority will be given to those artists whose projects need time in New Orleans.
