Kyoto Art Center (KAC) is launching its 2027 Artist‑In‑Residence Program for the Performing Arts Division, targeting emerging artists and researchers who wish to deepen their practice through immersion in Kyoto’s cultural milieu. The residency spans up to three months, with two possible windows: May 1–August 31 2027 or November 1 2027–February 29 2028. Applicants must be active in performing arts, able to articulate a clear research or production plan, and capable of communicating in English or Japanese. They are expected to design and execute exchange projects with the public during their stay. KAC will provide accommodation (arranged by the center), a dedicated studio, round‑trip economy airfare to Kansai or Osaka airports, and a ¥200,000 subsidy per production. Additional support includes public‑relations cooperation and assistance from art coordinators. The application window runs from June 30 2026 to July 31 2026 18:00 JST, with selection announced in late November. Successful applicants will receive a stipend covering travel and production costs, but food, artist fees, and other living expenses are not covered. The program is open to artists worldwide, with no explicit nationality or age restrictions, though it focuses on emerging practitioners. The application requires a PDF application sheet, a one‑page CV, and a portfolio of up to five pages.
