National Coalition Against Censorship
Sobre Esta Oportunidade
The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) invites curators and artistic directors to its 8th Annual Curatorial Workshop, "Curating from the Blacklist," held in Los Angeles on October 15, 2026. The workshop, presented in partnership with the Japanese American National Museum and the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, focuses on strategies for presenting challenging or sensitive subject matter amid increasing governmental pressures. Participants will hear from keynote speaker Clement Hanami of the Japanese American National Museum and case‑study presenters Alisha Kerlin (Marjorie Barrick Museum), John D. Spiak (Grand Central Art Center), and Hamza Walker (The Brick). The event is limited in capacity and includes light breakfast and lunch.
Applications are open to curators and artistic directors—both independent and institutional—who will be in or near Los Angeles in October. Applicants must submit a brief statement of interest, a case‑study proposal related to the workshop’s themes, and a summary of relevant experience. Acceptance notifications will be sent by September 16, 2026. Accepted participants must pay a non‑refundable workshop fee of $85.
The workshop offers professional development, networking, and a platform to discuss censorship challenges, making it a valuable opportunity for curators seeking to navigate contemporary political and cultural constraints.
