The RP Drawing Prize: Revealing the Human

Hull, United Kingdom
The Royal Society of Portrait Painters
Deadline: July 28, 2026

About This Opportunity

The competition is organized by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, a distinguished British institution dedicated to portraiture. The RP is seeking submissions from artists who observe and depict people, in whatever form that happens to be. We are keen to explore and expand the idea of what a portrait can be, and because drawing is such an immediate, direct response to the human, we’re hoping to be surprised by the variety of responses. The prize welcomes submissions in all drawing styles and techniques. Works depicting people in any form are eligible. To enter, artists must register and upload digital images of their artwork via the ArtOpps platform. If your work is selected for the second stage, it must be delivered to the University of Hull at your own expense and risk. Up to 120 selected works chosen by the jury will be displayed in a major exhibition at Hull University Art Gallery.

The competition is open to artists aged 18 or over, both amateur and professional.
