Propeller Residency – Call for Proposals

Vancouver, Canada
Upintheair Theatre
Deadline: August 28, 2026

About This Opportunity

Propeller is a two‑year residency programme run by Upintheair Theatre that guides artists through a structured dramaturgy process and collaborative production plan to create original speculative‑fiction performances. Selected artists will begin dramaturgical sessions and creative workshops in Fall 2026, with the residency culminating in a full production staged in Vancouver in Fall/Early Winter 2027. The programme offers artist fees in line with CAEA/PGC guidelines, producing fees of at least $28 CAD per hour, two dramaturgical workshops, travel costs, accommodation and per‑diem for those travelling outside Vancouver, and additional support such as workshop performers, a director and stage manager. Applicants must submit a 2‑page proposal outlining their practice, project concept, and answer a set of questions about collaboration, development stage, and accessibility needs. The call is open to emerging and mid‑career artists living in Canada, with no restrictions on age, ability, cultural background, gender, religion or sexual orientation. The deadline for proposals and interview requests is Friday 28 August 2026 at 23:59 GMT. Successful candidates will work closely with Upintheair Theatre’s artistic team throughout the residency.
