In accordance with amended Decree No. 92-1338 of 22 December 1992, the Musée du Louvre is tasked, in particular, with conserving, protecting, restoring on behalf of the State, and presenting to the public the works in the collections listed in the inventories of the Musée du Louvre and the Musée National Eugène Delacroix, as well as works placed on deposit in the Tuileries Garden; with ensuring, in the museums and gardens it encompasses and by any appropriate means, the reception of the widest possible public, increasing attendance, promoting knowledge of their collections, and implementing educational and outreach activities to ensure equal access for all to culture; with ensuring the scholarly study of its collections; with contributing to education, training, and research in the fields of art history, archaeology, and museography; and with managing an auditorium. To accomplish its missions, the Musée du Louvre cooperates notably with public authorities and public- or private-law bodies, French or foreign, pursuing objectives aligned with its vocation. The Musée du Louvre’s teams (approximately 2,300 staff) also contribute to the cultural programming of the Louvre-Lens and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The Directorate of Museum Studies and Research Support (DEMAR) aims to strengthen research policy at the Musée du Louvre through two main missions: coordinating the implementation of research support policy serving the museum’s departments and research units; and guiding the development of research projects on museum studies. It thus contributes to the museum’s influence nationally and internationally. The Research Support Service (SAR) is responsible for supporting the museum’s scholarly community, developing and implementing a program of scholarly meetings at the Dominique-Vivant Denon Center, coordinating and monitoring partnerships with other research institutions, and facilitating the hosting of external researchers.
