OUT Residency (Edition I: Our Story First)
About This Opportunity
The OUT Residency (Edition I: Our Story First) is an intensive, output‑driven in‑person production residency in Lagos, Nigeria, organized by the Kokopelli Art Foundation. Coinciding with Kokopelli Gallery’s fifth anniversary, the program brings a cohort of four artists to Lagos for critical engagement, peer exchange, and rigorous production, culminating in a landmark group exhibition. The residency is structured around three practice pillars—Unlearning & Discovery, Making & Mentorship, and Translation & Presentation—each designed to foster intellectual, physical, and relational growth. Participants also engage in a Flash Apprenticeship, evening conversations with industry professionals, and a site programme that includes guided visits to Nigerian workshops, markets, archives, and institutions. The program offers fully provided accommodation, daily meals, local transportation, a materials allowance, structured studio time, and comprehensive documentation of all work produced. Artists of African origin or heritage with at least two years of sustained artistic practice are invited to apply; the residency is open to all career stages, academic backgrounds, and mediums. The application deadline is 31 July 2026, with residency dates from 25 August to 7 September 2026 and a group exhibition on 11–12 September 2026. Applications are free to submit.
