Curated by the artist collective Center for Peripheries, OFF THE PRECIPICE is a project that explores this shift from different perspectives, bringing into an exploratory relation various occurrences around the world. When the values you were meant to hold dear, the art and culture you were embedded in, and the rules that governed your everyday become obsolete, what happens to your sense of self? This dialectic of the past and the present still lingers in places across the world, like a ghost that has unfinished business; in more scientific terms, it is a historical rupture, a moment in which time is reset, where things are defined by a before and an after, two realities forever tethered to each other. Center for Peripheries invites artists who come from or live in a context where such a rupture took place to explore its echoes, and offer perspectives on this idea of a tethered existence, where a past reality is also a parallel one. They will be invited to each create a “decentralized” spatial installation, a term we introduce to effectively mean a collection of artefacts working together to tell a story through different spatial constellations. *** Provided by the organizers: An artist fee of 400,- Euro Accommodation in Vienna for the duration of the setup and opening Travel fee of up to 250,- Euro
