OPEN CALL: Community Filmmaking Workshops

Apply now to host a one-day introductory filmmaking workshop in your community. Opening Shot’s Community Workshops Fund supports locally rooted workshops across Scotland. Opening Shot: Community Workshops is a new initiative designed to introduce the creativity and collaborative spirit of filmmaking to communities across Scotland. We are inviting community groups of all kinds to apply to host a fully funded one-day introductory filmmaking workshop. Workshops are designed for complete beginners and focus on enjoyment, collaboration, and creativity. Whether you are a charity, social enterprise, cultural association, or an informal collective of friends with a shared interest, this is an opportunity to try something new together. No prior filmmaking experience is required. Successful applicants will receive: • Full funding for a one-day filmmaking workshop. • Support to cover venue hire costs (e.g. community hall, school, or library). • Tutor matching to ensure the right fit for your group. • Optional support with access needs such as interpreters, transport, or childcare. Opening Shot will fund at least six workshops, which will be delivered between November 2025 and March 2026. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis and you will hear back within 4–6 weeks of submission. If you are applying in relation to a specific event or seasonal date, please include this in your application. Why apply? Filmmaking is a powerful way to tell stories, learn new skills, and bring people together. This fund is designed to make filmmaking accessible to communities who may never have thought of picking up a camera before.
