DYE WITH NATURE: A NATURAL DYEING WORKSHOP WITH AGNES WARUGURU
About This Opportunity
During the workshop, participants will explore the possibilities of natural pigments, teas, spices, flowers, and foraged materials from across Nairobi to create their own dyes. Through collective foraging, experimentation, and reflection, neglected fabrics and everyday items will be transformed with new layers of memory, colour, and meaning. Agnes Waruguru is a multidisciplinary artist who works across textile, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, needlework, natural pigment making and installation. Waruguru’s work is often connected to their lived experience in the world, reflecting on human interaction with the earth, and connecting this with the inner self. Touching on themes of time, traditional cultural practices, memory, invented memory, grief, spirituality and elemental sensibilities. This programme is open to anyone interested in the visual arts, natural dyes and pigments, and turning everyday items into art materials whilst learning new techniques. You don't need any previous experience in any field of creative expression to participate.
