Djakarta International Theatre Platform: 2025 Lab for Performance and Contemporary Theatre Practitioners in Southeast Asia (Indonesia)

Jakarta, Indonesia
Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP)
Deadline: May 26, 2025

About This Opportunity

Djakarta International Theatre Platform (DITP) 2025 announced an open call for BELALANG \ CÀO CÀO: Translocal Performance Lab, a fully funded cross-border laboratory programme designed to cultivate experimentation, collaboration, and critical exchange among theatre makers and performing arts practitioners across Southeast Asia. Artists working in performance and contemporary theatre practices are encouraged to apply. DITP is initiated by the Theatre Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council. For its 2025–2028 edition, DITP will focus on the Southeast Asian region by adopting the geopolitical concept of ‘Bumantara,’ coined by Indonesian intellectual Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana in 1975. The Lab offers an intensive three-week residency, from 24 July to 13 August 2025 (travel exclusive) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Facilitated by contemporary theatre and performance makers from the Southeast Asia region, the Lab aims at holding a space for exploring intercultural/collaborative frameworks and tools of seeing, sensing, thinking, sharing, and staging within as well as beyond the inter-Southeast Asia connection. The process-orientated collaboration strives for mapping various issues, discourses, needs, and current initiatives in theatre and performance in the region, particularly regarding how different local elements and knowledge gaps intertwine and evolve in collaborative exchange practices. Within the Lab, the participants will encounter various exchanges, conversation, co-learning, performance watching and experimentation which will lead to a performative open studio presented in the framework of DITP: Bumantara 2025 (5 to 13 August), developed in conversation with the Lab’s facilitators, the festival’s curators and organising team.
