Les prix de la Magic Lantern Society

The Magic Lantern Society invites submissions for its two annual awards – the Dick Balzer Award and the Mervyn Heard Award – which celebrate original work connected to the magic lantern, lantern slides and optical projection. Applicants may submit research, archival projects, performances, artworks, animation, film‑making or creative writing. The Dick Balzer Award recognises completed work from 1 December 2025 to 6 December 2026 and offers a book from the Society’s catalogue. The Mervyn Heard Award supports planned or ongoing projects and provides a cash prize of £300 together with a book of the winner’s choice. Both awards are open to anyone worldwide, with no entry fee. Submissions close on 6 December 2026 and winners are announced at the Society’s Annual General Meeting on 23 January 2027. Applications are made via the Society’s website.
