The Byrdcliffe Historic Cottage Residency is a long‑standing program hosted by the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, offering artists a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the serene environment of the historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony. The residency provides live‑work space in a range of historic cottages, each with its own layout and size, allowing artists to choose a setting that best suits their practice. Cottages are sparsely furnished and come in single or double occupancy configurations, with utilities such as propane, electric, and Wi‑Fi not included. Pets are strictly forbidden, and all participants must provide their own transportation to, during, and from the residency. The program is open to artists across visual, literary, and performing arts disciplines, with a primary focus on artistic excellence and demonstrated commitment to one’s field. The residency spans either a 5‑month period (May 3 – September 28, 2027) or a 3‑month period (May 3 – July 21, 2027 or July 29 – September 28, 2027), with application deadlines set for November 9, 2026. Selected artists receive a stipend covering the residency fee, which varies by cottage and duration, and are invited to participate in community programming, including practice shares, excursions, gatherings, guest speakers, and an annual exhibition at the Kleinert James Gallery. The program is recurring each year, with a new cohort of artists joining the colony for the summer season.
