À Propos de Cette Opportunité

The Roots of Humanity Artist Residency, hosted by Roots of Humanity in partnership with Afropocene in Kampala, invites East African artists across all disciplines to engage with the scientific and cultural questions surrounding genetics, ancestry, and human origins. The residency is not a science‑communication program but an invitation for artists to think with science on their own terms, using their practice to interrogate identity, memory, land, body, and belonging. Applicants need not have a scientific background; they must have a practice that asks serious questions and be open to letting new knowledge shape their work. Selected artists will be embedded with Afropocene, a vital creative space in Kampala, receiving studio space, mentorship, and institutional support throughout the residency period. While the exact duration and stipend details are not specified, the program promises a supportive environment for artists to develop new work that responds to the core questions of the project. Applications open in August 2026, and the residency is expected to run for an undisclosed period, offering a unique opportunity for East African artists to collaborate with scientists, historians, and cultural leaders on a transdisciplinary platform.
