The Public Art Learning Fund (PALF) is a grant program run by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) that supports professional development for artists working in or expanding into public art. Grants range from $500 to $3,000 and are intended to fund learning opportunities—such as conferences, workshops, training sessions, or discussions—that directly strengthen an artist’s public art practice. Eligibility is limited to artists who reside full-time in one of the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont), whose practice engages the public realm, and who maintain an active Creative Ground profile. Applicants may propose any learning activity that takes place during the grant year (January 1 – December 31 2027); travel expenses are reimbursable only when the activity is beyond a commutable distance. The application deadline is October 13 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Selected grantees receive the full award amount at the start of the grant year and must submit a grantee report within 40 days of completing the learning activity. The program emphasizes equity, inclusivity, and the development of vibrant public spaces throughout New England.
