À Propos de Cette Opportunité

The Institute for Public Architecture (IPA) welcomes applications for the 2027 Independent Project Residency, a live‑in program hosted at the historic Block House on Governors Island, New York City. The residency offers three seasonal sessions: a 7‑week Spring term (April 1 – May 15), an 11‑week Summer term (June 1 – August 15), and an 11‑week Fall term (September 1 – November 14). Emerging and mid‑career architects, urbanists, landscape architects, designers, artists, and researchers whose practice engages the public realm may apply. The program is open to applicants worldwide but excludes current students. Fellows live in private bedrooms, share studio and library spaces, and receive unlimited ferry access, communal meals, and a curated series of public events. The residency culminates in a public exhibition at the Block House, with work documented and published on IPA’s digital channels. Applicants must submit a statement of interest, research/design proposal, references, CV, and work samples through the online Airtable form. While there is no application fee, participants are required to pay a program fee ($2,500‑$3,900 depending on season) and a room fee ($2,700‑$3,000). Need‑based partial fee waivers are available for the program fee but not for the room fee. The residency provides a unique interdisciplinary community, access to Governors Island’s cultural ecosystem, and the opportunity to develop independent projects in a supportive environment.
