The Kota Residency Programme, a collaboration between Cité internationale des arts and Institut français d'Indonésie (with Fundação Oriente), offers two artists a fully funded three-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. The 2027 edition runs from February 2 to April 27, 2027. Open to artists of all disciplines (visual arts, performance, music/sound research, live performance, writing, design, architecture-urbanism, curatorial practice, art criticism) who have been living and working in Indonesia for at least 7 years and have at least 5 years of professional experience. No age limit; open to all nationalities. Group applications (duo, collective) are accepted but receive only one benefit package. Selected artists receive: studio accommodation (25-40m² with workspace, kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area) at the Marais location of Cité internationale des arts; monthly living stipend of €850; round-trip international travel to Paris; travel insurance and visa fees; professional mentoring, networking sessions, and meetings organized by the residency partners. Applicants must communicate in English or French. Application requires: detailed CV (max 4 pages, in English), portfolio of completed art projects (max 15 pages, in English, with visuals and descriptions, possibly with video/audio links), statement of intent (max 2 pages, in English) including artistic background, proposed research/creation project for the residency, reasons for choosing Paris and Cité internationale des arts, and motivation to participate in Cité community life. Applications are evaluated by a jury of program partners and qualified professionals based on professional background, artistic quality of the project, rationale for the residency experience, proposed work protocol, and existing contacts/partnerships. One of the two residencies gives special attention to artists whose work addresses themes related to remote areas outside major urban centers in the Indonesian archipelago.
