The Otte1 residency, hosted by the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Künstlerhaus e.V. in Eckernförde, Germany, invites professional artists to apply for a 3‑month scholarship in 2027. The call is open to visual artists, contemporary music composers, and writers who produce work in German. Collectives and groups may apply, provided they submit a single application on behalf of the entire group. Applicants must not be enrolled in a degree‑granting program during the residency, though those graduating before the residency may apply.

The residency offers a fully furnished studio, a stipend, and a modest budget for a resident‑led event such as a talk, exhibition, or workshop. Residents are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, participate in meetings and gatherings, and engage with the local artistic community. The application period runs from 1 July 2026 to 31 August 2026, with decisions announced in November and selected scholars notified in September/October.

Applications are submitted online via a user account created on the Otte1 website. The process requires a CV, a portfolio (up to 20 pages), and, for literature applicants, a German text sample. The jury of experts evaluates submissions, and the list of scholarship holders is published on the Otte1 site. The residency is part of an annual cycle, with four seasonal slots (Jan‑Mar, Apr‑Jun, Jul‑Sep, Oct‑Dec) available each year.

Eligible to apply are visual artists, composers of contemporary music, and writers. Writers are required to write in German. We accept artists at different stages in their careers, working with many different mediums. Collectives and groups may apply to the residency through our open call.
