The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) provides the Small Grant Programme to fund activities that promote, introduce and deepen understanding of Japan, its language and culture, as well as projects that encourage multilateral cultural exchange between Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Japan. The programme is divided into three categories: (A) Japanese Arts & Cultural Exchange projects, (B) Japanese Studies & Global Partnerships projects, and (C) Japanese Language Education projects. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. For physical or hybrid events (categories A and B) applicants must submit their proposal at least three months before the intended start date; for online events (categories A, B, and C) the deadline is one month prior to the start date. No application fee is required. Successful applicants receive a grant to cover project costs, though specific amounts are not fixed and are determined per project. The programme is open to individuals, groups, or organisations that meet the eligibility criteria for the relevant category. Inquiries can be directed to kl_grant@jpf.go.jp.
