Aberdeen Performing Arts, supported by Creative Scotland’s Expanded Festivals Fund, is launching a new play commission for its Light the Blue 2027 festival. The call invites early‑career playwrights aged 18–35 who are based in or have a meaningful connection to North‑East Scotland to submit a new, original play of up to 60 minutes for adult audiences. Applicants must have no more than one prior 60‑minute play commission and be actively pursuing a stage‑writing career. The commission offers a writer fee at the SSP/FST Standard Play rate, rehearsal days, and a 10 % royalty on box‑office takings. A production budget of approximately £45,000 will cover director, actors, stage manager, designers, technical staff, set, props, costume, and technical equipment. The commissioned work will open at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen in June 2027 for a run of up to one week, with potential touring and future presentation opportunities. The application deadline is 5 pm on Friday 11 September 2026. Submissions are made via an online form, which requires a brief bio, play idea, and a 15‑page excerpt of the script. The selection panel will shortlist 4–6 projects for a second‑stage review, with the final commission announced by 9 October 2026.
