Residencia de tejido experimental
Unstable Design Lab
Acerca de Esta Oportunidad
The Unstable Design Lab announces the Experimental Weaving Residency, a 12‑week program supporting artists, designers, and researchers developing new techniques and open‑source resources at the intersection of weaving and engineering. Six residents (two per session) will work in pairs during three cycles – Fall 2027 (Sept 1 – Nov 19), Spring 2028 (Feb 1 – Apr 25), and Fall 2028 (Sept 1 – Nov 17) – in Boulder, Colorado. Residents receive a $16,000 stipend, airfare to and from Boulder, and a $500 materials budget (managed by the lab). Housing is not provided; applicants must arrange their own accommodation. The residency offers a desk in the lab, priority access to a TC2 digital jacquard loom, a 24‑hour compu‑dobby loom, an 8‑hour floor loom, spinning, sewing and knitting equipment, traditional and novel weaving materials, programming support, and access to the ATLAS Institute’s fabrication facilities. Applicants submit work samples, statements of practice, intent, and collaboration plans via an Airtable form. International applicants are welcome but should note that the stipend will be reduced by U.S. tax withholdings and may incur visa fees. The program emphasizes open‑source sharing of techniques and outcomes, including publications, exhibitions, and digital resources.
