Convocatoria de ponencias: Cementerios judíos y cristianos en Europa Central y del Este entre lo urbano y lo rural: historia, investigación y conservación (Alba Iulia, Rumanía, del 18 al 21 de octubre de 2026)

The third edition of the international conference “Jewish and Christian Cemeteries in Central and Eastern Europe between Urban and Rural: History, Research, and Preservation” will take place in Alba Iulia, Romania from 18 to 21 October 2026. Organisers invite scholars, artists, conservators, and practitioners to submit abstracts of up to 300 words, accompanied by a brief biography, by 1 September 2026. Accepted papers will be presented either in‑person or online, as the conference offers a hybrid format. For participants attending on site, accommodation and meals are fully covered by the organisers. The conference seeks contributions on a wide range of topics, including the relationship between Jewish and Christian cemeteries, urban‑rural dynamics, funerary art, monument preservation, archaeological methods, and the impact of contemporary urbanisation on burial sites. Submissions will be reviewed by an international committee, with notifications sent by 15 September 2026. The event provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and the dissemination of research related to heritage and artistic practices surrounding cemeteries in Central and Eastern Europe.
