Acerca de Esta Oportunidad

The Bernheim Artist in Residence Program, established in 1980, invites visual and mixed‑media artists (including sound‑based and performance work with a visual component) to live and create site‑specific work in the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest near Clermont, Kentucky. Up to four artists are selected each year, with one residency reserved for a regional artist from Kentucky or Southern Indiana and another dedicated to an artist whose practice addresses environmental themes such as climate change, biodiversity loss, or environmental justice. Selected artists receive a $2,500 USD stipend, housing in a one‑room cabin equipped with a kitchen, heating, AC, Wi‑Fi, and a log‑burning fireplace, as well as access to a heated lakeside studio with electricity, concrete floors, and a utility sink. Basic art‑making tools and limited supplies are provided; artists are expected to bring any specialized equipment. The residency typically lasts 6‑8 weeks, but can be split into two periods with a minimum of three weeks per stint. Meals are not provided, though staff discounts are available at the visitor center café. International artists are welcome, must provide a visa if needed, and must have a working knowledge of English. Applications open on September 25, 2026 and close on November 30, 2026. The application is submitted through SlideRoom, and references, a project proposal, and work samples are required. The program emphasizes experimentation, risk‑taking, and deep engagement with the natural environment.
