Arbutus Folk School offers a one‑year Artists in Residence program for artists living in or near Olympia, Washington. The residency is an unpaid, volunteer‑exchange position that operates on a rolling‑basis, meaning applications are accepted continuously without a fixed deadline. Residents receive 24/7 access to the school’s fully equipped facilities—including ceramics studios, a woodshop, and fiber arts spaces—and are encouraged to create on‑site exhibitions, events, and sales to showcase their work. In addition to studio space, residents become part of a vibrant artistic community, contributing at least 15 hours per week to school operations and benefiting from informal mentorship and collaboration with staff and fellow artists. The program is open to all artists aged 18 and over, with priority given to BIPOC, LGBTQ, and artists who have limited access to studio space. No application fee is required, and the residency does not provide a stipend, housing, or travel support.
