Premio de Residencia Artística

The Icelandic National League of North America (INLNA) Artist Residency Award is a yearly program administered by the Buttermaker's House Management Committee in partnership with the Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society. The award is open to Icelandic artists, artists with Icelandic heritage, or artists working on projects about Iceland, its people, landscape, and culture. All artistic disciplines are welcome, and both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.

Applications are accepted from September 15 to November 30 each year, with the 2027 edition currently open. The award provides up to three recipients with a financial support of $3,000 each, intended to cover accommodation, transportation, food, and essential supplies during the residency. The Buttermaker's House, a fully restored historic farmhouse in Markerville, Alberta, offers a one‑bedroom residence and two studio spaces for artists to work.

Applicants must submit a one‑page project description, a CV, and a 150‑word statement explaining the connection of their project to Iceland. Selected artists will be notified by January 30, 2027. The residency includes accommodation and studio space; travel and food are covered by the award. The program encourages community engagement, allowing residents to give talks, workshops, or performances during their stay.
