Acerca de Esta Oportunidad
The 2222 Main Mural Project is a public art commission in Columbia, South Carolina, organized by Commonwealth Properties and One Columbia for Arts and Culture. Artists or artist teams are invited to submit qualifications to design and paint a mural on the first‑floor façade of a building in the Cottontown neighborhood. The mural will cover approximately 985 square feet across eight panels, divided into three sections for the selected artists. The artwork should reflect the character and history of Cottontown, with themes such as nature, local history, and community.
The call accepts professional artists or artist teams with experience in murals or large‑scale public art. Applicants must be U.S. residents, available to work during the Cottontown Art Crawl on March 6, 2027, and not currently enrolled in a degree program. The selection panel will review portfolios and statements of interest, and up to nine finalists will receive a $250 proposal stipend. If selected, each artist will receive $6,700, which covers design, labor, paint, materials, surface preparation, equipment, transportation, insurance, and installation.
Applications are due by October 23, 2026. Finalists will present conceptual designs in early December 2026, and the mural will be painted during the Cottontown Art Crawl in March 2027, with completion by March 12, 2027.
