Vital Impacts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to visual storytelling for environmental solutions, offers the Environmental Photography Fellowships and Mentorships for 2027 (applications open 31 August 2026, deadline 30 November 2026). The program awards one $20,000 fellowship to an established photographer, six $5,000 fellowships to emerging photographers, and ten unpaid mentorships. Fellows receive a 12‑month stipend, mentorship from the Vital Impacts community, and the opportunity to exhibit their work at the 2027 Festival of Ethical Photography in Lodi, Italy, with travel and accommodation covered for the selected exhibitor. Applicants must be documentary photographers with a sustained relationship to the community or issue they document, and the project must focus on their own community. Prior publication is not required. An entrance fee of $25 applies but may be waived for applicants from developing countries or those experiencing economic hardship. The call is open worldwide, with a strong encouragement for local photographers. All participants must adhere to Vital Impacts’ Code of Ethics.
