SMALL! 2026 is the sixth edition of fortyFivedownstairs’ flagship open‑call exhibition for small works. The call invites artists of all ages and experience levels to submit up to two pieces that measure no more than 20 × 20 × 20 cm (including framing) and are ready to hang. Submissions are accepted online until 9 November 2026, 5 pm, with an entry fee of $25 per artwork. All accepted works will be displayed anonymously in the gallery’s Lower Ground space on Flinders Lane, Melbourne, from 3 December to 17 December 2026. Each piece is priced at $160 for sale; the gallery takes a 35 % commission, leaving $125 for the artist. Prizes are awarded in nine categories—Under 18, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Photography, Textile, Mixed Media, and People’s Choice—using vouchers valued between $50 and $150. Artists must be residents of Australia; there are no age restrictions, but AI‑generated works are excluded. The exhibition offers studio space, anonymous display, prize awards, and a fixed sale price, but does not provide housing or travel support. The event is recurring, with a new edition each year, and the next call will open in spring 2027.
