Newberry-Stipendium für Künstler in Residenz
Newberry Library
Über Diese Gelegenheit
The Newberry Library’s Artists-in-Residence Fellowship invites artists and writers to conduct research in the Library’s extensive collections to support a creative project. Open to a wide range of disciplines—including fine and performing artists, authors, cartoonists, graphic designers, journalists, playwrights, and filmmakers—there are no degree or residency requirements. Applicants must demonstrate a need to access Newberry materials for their project. Awardees receive a stipend of $3,000 for a one‑month residency, which covers housing, travel, and other living expenses; the Library does not provide studio space. Each fellow is assigned a dedicated research carrel equipped with a desk, chair, bookshelf, and reading lamp, though certain art materials are prohibited to protect the collections. The fellowship is part of the broader Newberry Fellowships program and is offered annually; the 2027‑28 cycle opened on October 5, 2026, with a deadline of January 15, 2027. Applications are submitted through the Newberry SlideRoom portal and must include a project proposal, CV, reference, and up to three media samples. The selection committee, drawn from Library staff, reviews applications and typically announces decisions in May.
