MACBA-Studienzentrum

The MACBA Study Center, part of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), runs a Guest Researchers Programme that supports the study and critical analysis of contemporary artistic practices. The programme offers three types of residencies:

• Individual residencies for academic researchers, artists, and professionals specializing in contemporary art and culture. Applicants receive a dedicated study space equipped with a computer, internet, and office software, as well as access to the MACBA Library and Archive resources. The residency lasts 1–3 months and can be extended up to 6 months under exceptional circumstances.

• Group residencies for research teams working on projects related to contemporary art and culture. Groups are provided with a meeting and study space and may stage a public activity during their stay. The maximum duration is 10 months, with up to three groups supported at a time.

• Training residencies for professionals in libraries, archives, and museums. These unpaid residencies last 5–10 working days and aim to promote knowledge exchange and professional development.

Applications are accepted year‑round via email to psi@macba.cat. Applicants must submit a letter of presentation, a project description (max 3,000 characters), a CV, and reference letters if available. The programme does not provide a stipend, housing, or travel support, but offers free Friends of MACBA cards and opportunities for public presentation. The call is rolling, with no fixed deadline.

The MACBA Study Center is located in Barcelona, Spain, and the programme is conducted in English.
