Helmholtz-Institut für funktionelle marine Biodiversität & Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Institut für fortgeschrittene Studien – Artist-in-Residence (ArtWaves)

The Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) at the University of Oldenburg and the Hanse‑Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) Institute for Advanced Study jointly offer the annual ArtWaves artist‑in‑residence fellowship. The programme aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between artists and marine scientists, focusing on marine biodiversity change and public understanding of ocean science. Selected artists receive a monthly stipend of €2,500, free furnished accommodation on the HWK campus in Delmenhorst, a travel allowance, and access to a dedicated workspace. Material costs are covered upon agreement. The residency lasts 3–4 months, during which the artist is expected to produce new work, present it in seminars at both institutions, engage with researchers, and contribute to public outreach. Applications are accepted in English, must include a project proposal, CV, work samples, and references, and are due by 11 Oct 2026.
