Über Diese Gelegenheit

Alchemy Art Center hosts a seasonal Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program on San Juan Island, WA, inviting artists working in ceramics, printmaking, fiber art, or darkroom photography to apply for its 2027 cohorts. Applications are open from October 5, 2026 to December 7, 2026 (deadline December 7, 2026) with a $15 entry fee. The program offers three cohorts: Cohort I (Teaching focus, May 1 – June 9), Cohort II (Community Art focus, June 13 – July 21) and Cohort III (Community Art focus, July 25 – September 8). Residents contribute 15 hours per week of work exchange, which may include teaching adult classes, leading community workshops, mentoring youth, or assisting with studio projects. Each resident receives a living stipend of $100 per week, dedicated studio space in the Art Barn, 24‑hour access to all studio facilities, and the opportunity to exhibit work in Alchemy’s gallery, receive portfolio documentation with the San Juan Public Library, give an artist talk, and sell work in the center’s store. Housing is provided in rustic cabins with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities; residents must be comfortable living semi‑outdoors and sharing communal spaces. Eligibility requires a practice in the listed mediums; the teaching residency additionally requires prior adult‑level teaching experience, while the community residencies favor candidates who can lead workshops, have a driver’s license, and are comfortable working with children and the public. The program is open to artists of any nationality or age, provided they meet the discipline and experience criteria.
