Über Diese Gelegenheit

The Cape Town Workshop is a 12‑day research‑ and practice‑led residential programme (5–16 July 2027) that brings together graduate students in art practice and art history to engage with South African archives, contemporary practice, and interdisciplinary research methods. Hosted by the Paul Mellon Centre in partnership with the University of the Western Cape’s Iyatsiba Lab and Yale University, the workshop offers workshops, discussions, and encounters with local artists, grassroots organisations, and scholars. All travel (airfare, trains, visas) and accommodation costs are covered; participants are responsible for meals. The programme includes mentorship, collaborative research development bursaries, and the chance to develop future projects with Paul Mellon Centre staff. Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled MFA or PhD students in art or art history at UK institutions, South African institutions, or Yale University. Applications open 2 November 2026 and close 1 December 2026 (midnight GMT). The call is free to apply. Selected participants will join a cohort of 12 students, arriving the Friday before the programme and departing the weekend after its conclusion. The workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary, place‑based research and to support emerging scholars and artists in addressing colonial histories and contemporary resistance.
