The Maris, a new high‑end residential development under construction in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, invites professional mural artists or artist teams to submit proposals for a site‑specific exterior mural installation. The project comprises five fiber‑cement panels (four measuring 9 ft × 6 ft 6 in and one measuring 9 ft × 10 ft) that will become a prominent visual element overlooking the North Mill Pond and the future Greenway Trail. Artists are encouraged to create work that engages with the natural, historic, and urban context of Portsmouth—considering themes such as light, movement, water, and environment—while respecting the building’s contemporary architectural language. Submissions must include up to five examples of previous work, an artist statement or brief bio, a concept proposal, sketches or renderings, material specifications, installation method, project timeline, and references. The selected artist(s) will receive a maximum budget of $15,000 (all‑inclusive) covering fee, design, materials, fabrication, installation, and travel. The deadline for applications is August 1 2026, with artist notification expected in early September 2026. All applications are administered through 3S Artspace via Submittable, but final selection and contracting are handled by The Maris team. The artwork will remain the property of the client, with VARA considerations addressed in the contract.
