adriftproject Residency Inc. is a floating artist residency that operates aboard the vessel SV Hawa. Based out of New Haven, CT, the program travels the US east coast, providing artists with studio space, equipment, meals, and accommodation on board. Up to two residents are accepted at a time for periods ranging from five days to two months. The residency is open to artists of any discipline and career stage who are 21 years or older, can travel to the vessel’s ports, and are physically able to meet the boat’s requirements (e.g., climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lb). Applicants submit a portfolio or website, a statement of intent, and indicate three possible time frames for their stay. While there is no application fee, residents pay for room and board: $600 per week, $80 per extra day, or $1,800 per month. The program offers extensive resources, including a fully equipped workshop with metalworking, woodworking, CNC laser cutting, 3D printing, VR equipment, and a shared studio, as well as meals, Wi‑Fi, and private or shared cabins. Participants are encouraged to engage with local communities, give talks, and contribute a work of art. The residency continuously accepts applications; interested artists should contact the organizers via email before applying.
