John Hansard Gallery, part of the University of Southampton, in partnership with Autism Hampshire, is seeking a local autistic artist (residing within a 40‑mile radius of the gallery) to develop a new artwork responding to the exhibition “A Gentle Man (Part II) (1975‑2029)” by Becky Beasley, which will be shown at QUAD (Derby), Bluecoat (Liverpool) and at John Hansard Gallery in Spring 2027. The selected artist will receive an artist fee of £2,000, plus a budget for travel expenses, access costs and materials, to be defined in collaboration with the gallery. The commission will be facilitated by John Hansard Gallery staff and Autism Hampshire, offering mentorship and production support. Applications are free and must be submitted by Sunday 16 August 2026. The call is open to autistic artists of any discipline, provided they meet the geographic eligibility. Selected work will be exhibited at John Hansard Gallery as part of the exhibition programme. An information‑session event was held on 13 July 2026 (details on Eventbrite).
