À Propos de Cette Opportunité

Desde Otro Suelo is a subsidized three-week residency program for eight artists born in Latin America or the Caribbean, or with direct parental ancestry from the region, who currently live and work in the United States. The program arises from an interest in creating a space of encounter for artistic practices shaped by experiences of migration, displacement, life across territories, and the multiple forms of belonging that characterize Latin American and Caribbean communities in the United States. Rather than addressing these experiences thematically, Desde Otro Suelo understands them as conditions that shape perspectives, modes of production, affective relationships, and ways of imagining the world. From October 20 to November 9, 2026, selected artists will take part in an intensive residency at Cobertizo in Jilotepec, State of Mexico. The program covers transportation from Mexico City, private bedroom and bathroom, individual studio with wifi and 24/7 access, breakfast and meals five days a week, and shared amenities including kitchen, library, and terraces. Residents will have access to portfolio reviews with curators, an Open Studio with guests from the art scene and the Jilotepec community, and support for the development of their projects. The selection will be made by a specialized committee that will assess the conceptual rigor of the projects, their relevance within the residency framework, and their potential to engage in dialogue with other practices in this shared environment. Cobertizo is a non-profit civil association based in Jilotepec, State of Mexico, dedicated to fostering production, encounter, and critical thinking around contemporary art and other creative disciplines. Located in a rural environment with close proximity to Mexico City, the space combines the conditions for focused artistic production with ongoing possibilities for dialogue and exchange.
