STEPS Public Art, in partnership with Main + Main, is seeking professional Canadian artists or artist teams with connections to Ottawa to submit qualifications for the first stage of a two‑stage public art competition. The selected artist will be commissioned to create a large‑scale mural (approximately 20 ft × 60 ft) for the Maison Riverain development at 300 Montgomery Street, Ottawa, ON. The project budget is $30,000 CAD (HST inclusive) covering artist fees, materials, installation, and related expenses. Up to three shortlisted artists will receive $750 CAD (HST inclusive) to develop detailed design proposals. The final commission will be installed in Spring 2027. Applications are submitted via a single PDF through a Google Form by 23 August 2026, 11:59 pm ET. Eligibility requires Canadian citizenship or residency and a demonstrable connection to Ottawa, with professional experience as defined by Canada Council criteria. The call provides a significant public art commission and a modest development stipend for shortlisted participants.
