April Residency is an international residency programme for writers, including novelists, essayists, critics, editors, performers, scriptwriters, artist‑writers, poets and even ghostwriters. Located in the picturesque lake city of Trakai, 30 km from Vilnius, the programme offers writers the chance to live and work in studios set up on the shores of Lake Galvė. Participants receive the conditions to implement individual projects, can engage with the cultural scenes of Trakai and Vilnius, and are supported by professional creative consultations such as translation, proofreading, curatorial and editorial advice. The programme also runs a public programme of readings, performances, talks, discussions, film screenings and educational events.

An open call for the residency is announced once or twice a year. Starting in July 2026, up to 20 contemporary authors will be accepted for residencies lasting between two weeks and two months: ten artists or collectives will join by invitation, and ten will be selected through the open call announced in July 2026. The residency is suited to local and international authors who use literary expression professionally and are willing to experiment with text forms, language or genre.
